Creating And Maintaining High Performance Teams

Creating And Maintaining High Performance Teams
Recruitment. Most coaches have a strong reaction to this word. E 'or something like that, "JIPPO!" or the power of the word, you can not write this article. I think when we understand what it is recruiting, we take a more active and committed interest in a potential student-athletes. Recruiting is our chance to make an impact, to teach young people leadership, team building, goal setting ... more on that next post. And if we're lucky enough to coach female athletes, we added the ability to show them that girls and women can not go along just as a group ... you can do great things together.

We have the opportunity to teach these lessons, if we do not recruit! That's why I'm talking about recruiting during the "I Love Coaching 'a month.
Now, we can agree that recruiting is to assemble a group of people with a range of skills that will benefit the team (although it is certainly important!), Speaks of four quadrants that make up a successful recruiting class.
Scout. This is the beginning of the process. The most obvious way to scout is to participate in recruitment events. I will not mention how much I love the first impression when I walk into a convention center and the testimony of volleyball as far as my eyes can see ... it is glorious, and it never gets old. More important than scouting is connected. If we have contact with club teams / AAU, high schools, trainers, coaches, even at another college, we can maximize our efforts.
Contact. Once we have athletes that interests us, then it is time to contact them. Whether to go to practice, watch a game, call, email, talk to your club coach, home visits ... what you can do in the league rules is fair game. If you do not, someone else.
Visit. All admissions for professional tell you that your chances increase greatly if you can recruit on campus. Sooo, we had better make sure you get them on campus! Not only to see the campus, you get to sit in a class, meet with your team, and usually what life would be if the campus to participate in your college. I know some coaches who threaten their team with a lot of time on the bench, if they are negative recruiting. I think I remind them that someone took the time while they were still making their decisions in college, and now it's time to return to the good. Also, do not want the team must be terrible when they go ... the only way to ensure that the level of play remains high thanks to the efforts of recruitment.
To preserve. Plain and simple, we need to keep them hooked. We do not want to spend months in an athlete, they just snatched from under us, because we thought it had wrapped. Use a team, which will send emails or connect to their recruitment on Facebook. Of course, we must keep in touch with them and remind them of why they fell in love with our team and our university for all months in advance. In recent weeks, before I got married, my brother advised me to "not spoil it now." Excellent advice! In essence, I was warning them not to be a crazy lady marriage and forgets to show the nodes, because we do this first. Coaches, we are symbolically "target" these recruits ... Do not screw does not close the deal.
Recruitment is vital to the team. I seem to remember that our job as coach is to teach life lessons through sports attract more sense and less of an obligation.
